Play Therapy

Play and creative arts therapy is a child centred approach, using play as a way for children to express themselves and to communicate with the therapist. The play tool kit provides children with a range of activities such as music, dance, art, clay, drawing, sand tray, small world play, puppets, therapeutic story-telling, role play, drama and creative visualisations to use in their sessions.

Through play, children are able to express, explore and communicate a range of emotions they may not be able to articulate. The use of metaphor through play provides a degree of removal for the child so that it feels safer and less intense for them to explore their experiences.

Play therapy provides a safe, non-judgemental environment for children to explore and process issues affecting their lives, past and present.

Waves offers both Individual and Group Sessions, details of which can be found below.

Individual Sessions

Play therapy sessions give children space, freedom and time to explore their sometimes complex emotions. I take a holistic child-centred approach, where play is used as the primary medium for communication. Sessions last for approximately 45mins and take place at the same time each week.

Group Sessions

Group play therapy sessions enable children to benefit from peer interactions as they explore their emotional needs together. Group sessions can improve children's emotional awareness, boost confidence and self-esteem and develop pro-social skills.
